Below is another look at a few recent domain flips and flops, with recent data courtesy of DN Journal and historical data from NameBio.
Flips
- TV.ae – Sold recently at Sedo for $95,000, vs $8,000 in 2011 at Sedo. A nice 10x return in a few years. The new owner is Abu Dhabi Media, and their main site is at ADMedia.ae. “Abu Dhabi Media is one of the fastest growing, multi-platform media and entertainment organizations in the Middle East, operating across the broadcast, publishing, and digital media sectors.” No site currently resolves at TV.ae.
- RealEstateForeclosures.com – Sold recently at Flippa for $7,500, vs $4,692 in 2013 at NameJet. The new owner is Next Click Ventures. No site is live yet. The seller must have gotten tired of waiting, needed some cash, or was making some year-end sales for tax purposes…..the same domain had reached $10,000 and over $15,000 in bidding in prior listings last year without meeting reserve……but the seller still came out ahead with a profitable flip.
- Nachos.com – Sold recently at Flippa for $18,051, vs $10,008 back in 2008 via Rick Latona. The current owner is under privacy protection, and a minisite with a whole lotta Adsense is live, as shown below.
Flops
- Baguette.com – Sold recently at Flippa for $6,999, vs $8,970 last year at Sedo. This one is a repeat flop…..prior to last year’s sale at Sedo, its previous public sale was for $11,000 in 2010 at Afternic. The new owner per Whois is John Biglin of Pennsylvania.
Note: I didn’t do an exhaustive search of the ownership history of each domain. There are likely cases where there were multiple owners between the sales prices I list.
