Domain Flips (RightQuote.com, VBBB.com) and Flops (JX.de, SoccerScarves.com)

Below is another look at a few recent domain flips and flops, with data courtesy of NameBio.

Flips

RightQuote.com sold for 14,000 USD recently at Sedo, vs 1,700 USD on 2015-08-30 at SnapNames. Excellent 7x return after commission in a little over a year. The domain is still showing in transfer at Sedo, but for a $14k price, I’m guessing we’ll see an insurance company as the buyer, as opposed to a site about inspirational or domaining quotes.

VBBB.com sold for 4,500 USD recently at NameJet, vs 1,337 USD on 2016-08-22 at GoDaddy. Great flip in under 3 months. This domain has traded hands a bunch, including sales for $252 in 2011 and $943 in 2012.

Laboralia.com sold for 3,888 USD recently at Sedo, vs 121 USD on 2016-08-15 at NameJet. Even better flip in 3 months, with a 27x return. New owner is under privacy, but I’d guess that it’s a company upgrading from “laboralia” developed on another extension, like the .es or .it.

NNKM.com sold for 1,911 USD recently at NameJet, vs 225 USD on 2014-11-03 at NameJet. It’s no secret that LLLL.com prices have come down off their highs early this year, but for those that bought over a year ago, they’re typically sitting on gains.

Flops

JX.de sold for 5,547 USD recently at Sedo, vs 5,460 USD on 2011-12-21 at Sedo. This looks profitable until you factor in commissions….and then it’s a nearly $750 loss. It’s rare to see a short domain like this with a 5 year hold being sold at a loss, even with the .DE extension.

Christm.as sold for 515 USD recently at Flippa, vs 900 USD on 2007-03-01 at Sedo. No love for the hack.

YourConnected.com sold for 225 USD recently at GoDaddy, vs 3,001 USD on 2009-10-14 at Afternic. I’m not sure if this domain is supposed to be “you’re connected”, or “your connected ______” (home, car, life).

SoccerScarves.com sold for 299 USD recently at GoDaddy, vs 3,900 USD on 2010-07-28 at Sedo. I’m guessing they had an eCommerce shop in mind when they bought the name, but I don’t see one live in past screenshots. It’s easy to dream up great ideas, but it’s more difficult to follow through and execute……..I’m just as guilty as the next person.

Note: I didn’t do an exhaustive search of the ownership history of each domain. There are likely cases where there were multiple owners between the sales prices I list.
