Domain Spotlight:

Before the domains, a quick picture from a hike this morning outside of Crested Butte. The best time for fall colors was a week or two ago, but today’s scenery wasn’t too shabby. Just think of what it looks like in person, vs a simple iPhone picture. There are some beautiful places out here!

Below is another look at a few recent domain flips and flops, with data courtesy of NameBio.

Flips

Swore.com sold for 5,450 USD recently at Sedo, vs 421 USD on 2013-09-27 at NameJet. Great 11x return after commission in three years. People love one word .com domains; will be interesting to see how this one is developed, because an obvious use doesn’t jump out at me.

iReplay.com sold for 1,850 USD recently at Flippa, vs 505 USD on 2016-07-30 at GoDaddy. Nice quick flip at Flippa; two month hold.

MEDF.com sold for 2,430 USD recently at NameJet, vs 278 USD on 2012-07-15 at SnapNames. Return of 7x in about four years.

FLY.io sold for 7,009 USD recently at Flippa, vs 1,770 USD on 2015-01-14 at Sedo. The .io domains continue to be hot.

Flops

Phenoms.com sold for 2,049 USD recently at DropCatch, vs 10,000 USD on 2015-02-08 at Uniregistry. Frank Schilling seems to have let this one go cheaply last year, at least compared to some other monster sales we’ve seen out of Uniregistry. Elliot Silver, a domaining phenom, mentioned yesterday that he was the recent buyer.

GeneTrade.com sold for 424 USD recently at DropCatch, vs 6,000 USD on 2015-10-15 at Uniregistry. The second example this week of people buying from Frank Schilling last year, only to drop their name……..never a smart move!

DDDP.com sold for 5,000 USD recently at NameJet, vs 5,700 USD on 2016-06-28 at NameJet. After commission, a loss of around $1,500 in under four months.

ConnectUp.com sold for 3,178 USD recently at GoDaddy, vs 15,000 USD on 2014-01-12 at Afternic. A business plan that went awry…..according to old screenshots, they used to pitch themselves as the “world’s best contact outreach engine opens more doors, so you don’t have to”.

NEWX.com sold for 3,100 USD recently at GoDaddy, vs 5,700 USD on 2012-01-23 at Sedo. Another business plan that must not have worked out….you can see a screenshot below of the previously developed eCommerce site, with Chinese and English language options. “The New Lifestyle Experience”

Note: I didn’t do an exhaustive search of the ownership history of each domain. There are likely cases where there were multiple owners between the sales prices I list.
