Domain Spotlight:

Below is another look at a few recent domain flips and flops, with data courtesy of NameBio.

Flips

An Adam Dicker sighting? ManagedWebsites.com sold for 1,375 USD recently at Sedo, vs 800 USD on 2011-01-19 at Sedo. It appears this may be one of Mr. Dicker’s next projects. Although the domain is under privacy protection, the email button in the lower right hand corner of the site links to one of his email addresses at [email protected], and the pricing plans on this new site link to his NicheWebsites.com site. Some have speculated that he hasn’t paid his hosting bills at DNForum.com, or repaid other amounts due to past customers, yet he appears to have bought this domain and built a site in the last week. Buyer beware. The screenshot below is linked, if you’d like to check it out.

managed websites

AspenColorado.com sold for 16,751 USD recently at Flippa, vs 4,375 USD on 2012-07-04 at Sedo.

Trasa.com sold for 6,300 USD recently at GoDaddy, vs 2,380 USD on 2015-02-12 at GoDaddy. 2.3x in a year after commission. Appears to be an upgrade name for a couple sites developed on other extensions.

MMOO.com sold for 6,000 USD recently at NameJet, vs 3,656 USD on 2015-10-15 at Sedo. A nice 40% return after commission in 4 months.

JGU.net sold for 4,800 USD recently at Sedo, vs 351 USD on 2010-12-03 at NameJet. Excellent return and sales price. Must be an end user sale, and Whois shows the domain still in transfer.

EliteAviation.com sold for 2,445 USD recently at Sedo, vs 611 USD on 2016-01-24 at NameJet. Excellent return in under a month. Whois shows the domain is still in transfer.

Vespas.com sold for 1,250 USD recently at NameJet, vs 360 USD on 2015-03-20 at NameJet. Although the buyer per Whois doesn’t tie to the owner of the scooter company, Vespas.com is currently redirected to Vespa.com.

Flops

NAID.com sold for 1,200 USD recently at Flippa, vs 1,610 USD on 2016-01-07 at NameJet. The seller held it for only a month. Quick flips are easy, right? A loss of $600 after commission.

WalletOnline.com sold for 698 USD recently at GoDaddy, vs 2,588 USD on 2012-04-04 at Afternic. Online wallets are popular, but businesses in that industry never seem to be named with the keywords. Certainly not with the keywords backwards.

MutualFundDatabase.com sold for 111 USD recently at GoDaddy, vs 10,000 USD on 2013-12-15 at Afternic.

NetWit.com sold for 650 USD recently at NameJet, vs 1,802 USD on 2014-09-30 at GoDaddy.

TradeWork.com sold for 675 USD recently at GoDaddy, vs 3,900 USD on 2012-02-29 at Afternic. No love for trade in the sharing economy?

VetClub.com sold for 521 USD recently at GoDaddy, vs 9,000 USD on 2015-02-08 at DomainNameSales. I can’t imagine going through the expense of buying a domain from Frank Schilling and then selling it or letting it drop a year later. Presumably a business plan didn’t pan out. Archive.org shows the domain being redirected to a page on VetCareHealth.com earlier this year, but no site resolves there.

Note: I didn’t do an exhaustive search of the ownership history of each domain. There are likely cases where there were multiple owners between the sales prices I list.
