Domain Spotlight:

Below is another look at a few recent domain flips and flops, with data courtesy of NameBio.

Flips

ZJE.com sold for 60,000 USD recently at GoDaddy, vs 3,533 USD on 2012-06-26 at NameJet. Excellent return of over $45k after commissions. This acquisition was well over wholesale price, and I’m not sure what the motivation was, as the new owner is under privacy protection, and only a parked page resolves.

BigEdge.com sold for 3,875 USD recently at Sedo, vs 130 USD on 2007-09-02 at SnapNames. About a 25x return after commission. Looks like the buyer is related to a company named Quasar Limited, which is an online gaming company.

RRRU.com sold for 4,235 USD recently at NameJet, vs 2,200 USD on 2016-01-12 at Sedo. Not too shabby for a hold less than a year.

Evaluate.io sold for 2,500 USD at TLDPros.com, vs 400 USD on 2016-06-03 at Park.io. Excellent 5 month return.

Science.org sold for 49,000 USD recently at Sedo, vs 20,000 USD on 2009-10-01 at Sedo. This domain was an upgrade for ScienceMag.org, “The world’s leading outlet for cutting-edge research in all areas of science“, and a screenshot is below. ScienceMag.org has an impressive Alexa rank near 3,700.

Flops

CoolTrend.com sold for 605 USD recently at DropCatch, vs 5,000 USD on 2015-02-08 at Uniregistry. It’s never good for your bank account to buy a domain from Frank Schilling one year, and drop it the next.

StyleMate.com sold for 408 USD recently at DropCatch, vs 4,188 USD on 2013-01-14 at Afternic.

WeddingStickers.com sold for 233 USD recently at GoDaddy, vs 5,000 USD on 2012-05-04 at Sedo.

Favoring.com sold for 1,210 USD recently at Flippa, vs 2,009 USD on 2015-04-20 at GoDaddy. A loss of nearly 50% for this “-ing” domain in a year and a half.

Note: I didn’t do an exhaustive search of the ownership history of each domain. There are likely cases where there were multiple owners between the sales prices I list.
