Below is another look at a few recent domain flips and flops, with data courtesy of NameBio.
Flips
Career.net sold for 85,000 USD recently at Sedo, vs 52,500 USD on 2007-02-28 at Sedo. Picked up by the Bulgarian company behind the site Jobs.bg, “JOBS.BG used by over 70,000 companies in Bulgaria from all sectors of the economy. Published more than 20 000 items a month, applying for them are over 1 800 000.” Not a fantastic return when considering the 9 years between the two sales — about a $20k profit after commissions. Interestingly, the domain still has a BIN of $65k through Afternic, which is $20k below the recent sale price.
0z.com sold for 32,500 USD recently at Sedo, vs 2,500 USD on 2005-02-18 at Afternic. Not surprisingly, this domain is now in China.
ZZ.org sold for 31,250 USD recently at NameJet, vs 23,000 USD on 2007-07-10 at T.R.A.F.F.I.C.. This one is in Wyoming, with Whois showing an owner email address of IntlDomains.net.
Boor.com sold for 10,000 USD on 2016-03-22 at Flippa, vs 2,302 USD on 2013-12-15 at NameJet.
FXMS.com sold for 3,488 USD recently at GoDaddy, vs 1,000 USD on 2014-01-19 at Afternic. As stated most weeks, LLLL.com domains have dropped in price compared to a couple months ago, but if you made your acquisitions a year or more ago, you’re probably sitting in good shape.
BDPT.com sold for 2,000 USD recently at GoDaddy, vs 449 USD on 2015-03-20 at GoDaddy.
VirtualRace.com sold for 7,294 USD recently at Sedo, vs 300 USD on 2013-12-02 at GoDaddy. Picked up by event firm 1N3.com, and some of their other sites/events include SelfieRun.com and SoGlow5k.com. “1N3 is an event company producing new and innovative events wolrdwide. 1N3 is also an event management and consulting company.”
Flops
HDVD.com sold for 872 USD recently at Flippa, vs 2,800 USD on 2016-02-06 at GoDaddy. Quick flip gone awry….less than a two month hold, but more than a $2k loss after commission.
VVTT.com sold for 2,600 USD recently at NameJet, vs 2,902 USD on 2015-03-30 at NameJet.
StreamingServices.com sold for 669 USD recently at NameJet, vs 1,000 USD on 2013-01-01 at NameJet. It’s not that streaming services aren’t popular anymore; think Netflix, Hulu, Amazon.
FreeTrailer.com sold for 385 USD recently at DropCatch, vs 17,000 USD on 2008-07-09 at T.R.A.F.F.I.C.. The domainer that picked this up in 2008 must have had too many drinks in the pre-auction open bar. Archive.org does show a site in the past, related to the RV-type of trailer. Screenshot below.
Note: I didn’t do an exhaustive search of the ownership history of each domain. There are likely cases where there were multiple owners between the sales prices I list.
