Yesterday I went to the Illinois High School Indoor Track State Championships to see my daughter run. At the meet a Freshman girl set the state record for 2 miles at 10 minutes 11 seconds. For a non runner its hard to understand exactly how fast it is but obviously if its the fastest all time you know its moving. The National record for 2 miles for a Freshman outdoor was set by the Olympian phenom Jordan Hasay at 10:06. And I think she is going to crush it and be the first to break 10. Everyone has their sport that impresses them, but I find track an amazing sport. There certainly is genetic ability but it isn’t realized unless a lot of training and hard work is put in. It’s all on you. No team to help you (relays of course have others running) This young lady had both the God given talent and you could tell she put in the work. She was small and young looking, but she definitely had been working out. She was more fit looking than most of the younger girls. And her stride looked much more mature than a 15 year old would have. My daughter placed 4th in state but you can imagine that the 10:11 was pretty much what everyone talked about. I really enjoyed watching a future/present star run live but I was much happier that my daughter was happy with her day.
