What can I say that hasn’t already been said. A big thank you to Michael Cyger for everything he’s brought to the industry. He gave me a chance to be part of a great show. A show that wasn’t for everyone but it was for a lot. I know because of all the emails I’ve received over the years. Maybe it was better with Rick and Mike. It doesn’t matter. Its over. Its time for all those naysayers that criticized to step up and to do something better. But I imagine it will be the same old case where there are doers and there are talkers. Mike was a doer and he let us do the talking. Glad to see he practiced what he preached, had some amazing sales, and now can do things on his own time. Congratulations Mike, you did great things. Have a name at auction and need more exposure? Send me an email. I Charge $10 per name per day. We may be able to help. If you have an auction you want to promote, email us for details.*All names chosen by me, Shane or Josh . (ie you click through and purchase a name you like) or an occasional paid listing. Everything I say is based on my own research or is opinion. Do your own due diligence. That means look it up yourself if you don’t think the stats or my opinion is correct. I hand choose my names but I am paid to make this list by the auction houses, individuals that are auctioning names, and Godaddy affiliate links. Keep that in mind and only buy names that YOU think are good
Couldn’t have said it any better myself Shane.
I can directly correlate domainsherpa with my succuss in domaining. I started in 2014 and have had 2 six figure sales, and 8 five figure sales. Had my domains reviewed there as well, bunny.com, crisis.com (sold it since the review) and Strider.com among others
After that review I had the confidence to buy Black.com when that came along.
A big thank you to mike and all involved.
I stumbled across DomainSherpa.com about 4 or 5 years ago after learning that people bought and sold domains for seo value. I didn’t know anything about the industry, didn’t know there was an aftermarket. The only thing I consistently watched or listened to driving to work was the DomainSherpa interviews. I seriously believe that I wouldn’t be a domainer if It wasn’t for Cyger. I kept looking for more podcasts and videos with the same caliber of information because once I got hooked I wanted more and more, but it just wasn’t/isn’t out there. I would watch the videos over and over again.
IT’s kinda funny to think of the “big names” in the domain space and realize I would never have known who the hell they were without DomainSherpa. I realized this during the whole Rick Schwartz thing, I kept thinking “The only reason I even know your name is because of this show.” That’s certainly nothing against Rick, it’s just the fact that your average person knows nothing about domains, the aftermarket and who’s running it.
I’m still hoping that this is some sort of media play, 🙂 maybe Cyger was drunk or high when he sent that message out, got my fingers crossed. I would watch or listen to a Joe Rogan style domain podcast everyday if there was one available, 3, maybe 4 hours of nothing but a few guys bullshitting about domains with some crypto talk thrown in for added flare.
Can you start a petition or something? Maybe threaten to kidnap him if he doesn’t continue or at least find someone to keep it going? Cyger you could be a retired adviser, it could be all behind the scenes if you want. I’m starting a campaign entitled “Every week the DomainSherpa is off the air, a puppy dies”, see if that gets any traction.
But seriously Mike, the show will be greatly missed and I assume it was a hard gut wrenching decision to make. Sometimes it’s just time to move, change or pivot.
So Henceforth, the 6th day of September shall be a day of domain mourning, officially celebrated on the first Wednesday in September and known to those who know as “Domain Black Wednesday”
Great story. Can I ask how much money you started out with though? All the names you mentioned require substantial capital.
I had the capital before I started, just never would have imagined investing those sums in domains. I would buy cheap/hand reg with moderate success. After watching the shows I realised that the big ticket category is a better place to invest and I can make more money in absolute terms than other categories in domaining.
