Domain Shane’s Daily List of Domains at Auction for Wednesday January 4th, 2018

Escrow.com

It’s really hard to argue against people putting their money in other places besides domain names right now.  Crypto is killing it.  The stock market has pretty much been a can’t miss with record returns.  In all honesty, keeping your money tied up in domains right now has lost you money in all but the top tier names.  But I’m not saying don’t buy domains.  But I would have been wrong to tell you not to liquidate and put it in crypto.  I never understood the having to choose teams.  I’ve never been good at the my team is great, your team sucks game.  Unless I’m actually on the field or my business competes against yours, I have zero animosity. I went to Alabama and love the school and the team.  I think we have the best football in the country.  But I don’t despise Auburn or Florida.  I actually root for them when they play anyone else beside Alabama because they are southern style football.  The same goes with all these other investments.  I don’t root for something to do poorly because I’m not invested in it.

The key to investments is understanding.  It takes a lot of time studying and researching alternative forms of investments.  Generally there is not enough time in the day to become comfortable in many different forms of assets.  The crypto person probably isn’t an expert in the stock market and domains, and real estate, etc.  He/she could understand all of them but not an expert in but one or two. For time reasons alone.  Unless there is a lot of disposable income most people dabble in a few things and go hard in what they understand.  Or chase what is returning good profits

Crypto is my dabble.  I don’t trust it.  I understand what it is but the price fluctuations are not explainable other than other people want to buy it.   Why one is a better technology or worth more than the others I have zero idea.  I’ve tried to do the research.  I’ve asked 100 people. They all give different answers and I am pretty sure they are chasing numbers and throwing darts as well. That leaves me in the dabble area

Stock market I’m in hard.  I know my companies.  I know the market.  And I love the ability options give me to make winners very big winners.  Bigger than crypto.  A Netflix option return this week is 500% and that is possible every single week in options.  A lot more than crypto.  But I understand them and they don’t scare me like they do most people

Domains. I think I understand domains, their value, and which names to buy.  Due to the above returns it is not worth my time to scalp names in the auctions at this time.  I am buy and hold only. Time brings the great returns.   I think I know which domains are increasing in value so I am merely buying and waiting for offers.  I spend my time trying to make acquisitions and answering inquiries.  Going through the auctions and private names to buy.  When the stock market cools and crypto isn’t going straight up I will start scalping again.

I completely understand why a lot of our money has exited for better returns.  Ask any trader.  Money flows.  Sometimes its in, sometimes its out.  The irony is most people complain both ways.  Complain when the liquidity leaves and complain when prices get bid up too high.  I’ll buy when liquidity leaves and sell when the money comes back in.  Buffet style  Here are today’s names at auction today.  Click for current price

n by me Shane, or Josh . (ie you click through and purchase a name you like) or an occasional paid listing. Everything I say is based on my own research or is opinion. Do your own due diligence. That means look it up yourself if you don’t think the stats or my opinion is correct. I hand choose my names but I am paid to make this list by the auction houses, individuals that are auctioning names, and Godaddy affiliate links. Keep that in mind and only buy names that YOU think are good

  1. Spot-on commentary, Shane.

I still hold my core portfolio of names, but the domain space has become very boring, i.e., mature.

Crypto is such a massive space, with never ending activity in multiple silos, which will absolutely be here, and still in full swing, when our grandkids are having families.

2017 really was just the warm-up for crypto. You know it’s early when the primary exchanges either have daily outages, and/or can’t even onboard new customers, both of continue to be the case.

  2. Been throwing bones here for over a year. Nice to see you are dipping a finger in.
    Not investment advice. Lol.

    Dgb
    Ltc
    Ada
    Nem
    Pillar
    Pivx
Highly speculative but so are domains, etc. Finally an open market where “fraudstreet”ERS and common folk can play the same game. Stock market is massively rigged.
    24 hr market, no bell.☺
    All the best in 2008!!

    1. I’ve been reading blogs on Domaining.com pretty much since the site launched.

But now that Francios has effectively banned crypto chat/posts, I will never again visit Domaining.com. It’s on my block-list, and I’ll bet that I’m not alone in this sentiment.

Sorry to all the bloggers who work so hard each day…

      1. Yes, strange. Both industries compliment each other very well. Digital and border-less, awesome.
Seems strange that he would want to suppress discussion on any topic directly or indirectly related to domains. If he doesn’t see the benefit of using cryptos to buy or sell domains then maybe it’s time to move on to a site that does. Too bad, domainers and crypto investors are cut from the same cloth imo. High risk, highly volitile industries with HUGE opportunities in both.
Come on Francois, lighten up a bit and help cross promote both industries. You have an amazing platform and following to push both industries forward. If anything I thought Francois would have setup a crypto/domain escrow service so people could buy and sell domains with cryptos taking a small commission along the way.
Many registries ie. Uni is missing the boat imo. Based in Cayman’s??? Perfect for crypto/domain transactions. Maybe I am missing something.

    1. Ha. I got screwed up with the holidays. You can tell I’m not really doing much when I have no idea what day it is 🙂 Will be right for at least a few days now. Thanks Martin
