I had a good talk with Alan Dunn the other day and we talked about what kind of domains we are adding to our portfolios. Turns out we both use the same strategy when buying a name. We only buy names that if we put it up for auction it would sell. Not saying it would sell for what we paid but there would definitely be other people that want to own that name. Even other domain investors. If other people don’t want to own the name what makes me so special that I can find and sell a name that nobody else wants? It sounds simple but how many names have you seen that somebody owns that you wouldn’t want to own no matter what the cost? I see it every day. I ask myself “Why in the hell would somebody buy that name?” There are next levels of choosing a name but starting with this simple rule eliminates a whole portfolio of random darts. It’s random enough with good names without having hundreds of names only I think are good.
On a side note. I was part of a team that help bring Luke Bryan to Champaign Urbana tonight so Luke and his team were nice enough to hook me up with some tickets to the concert. Its a pretty cool event. They have it at a farm outside of town. Set the whole thing up in the middle of a cornfield and have a concert. Supposed to be a cookout with the band and assistants after the concert but not sure if I can stay up that long. And two, I have a 12 mile run at 5 am and a big event with thousands of people at the nursery Saturday as well. I probably should just stay up all night and roll into the next. Although that hasn’t really served me well over the years. My wife and I will probably just come home early like we always do. Old is bad enough but early morning running old is even worse. Here are today’s names. Click through to see the current price
