I can’t tell anyone how to be happy but I can tell you what has made the difference for me over the last 20 years that has kept me smiling and enjoying life. Here are 10 things I think lead to happy life
- Traveling with friends. Every year I go somewhere with my friends. In groups of 3 to 10. No matter how old I am we revert to being kids again. From riding scooters through Berlin to having a few beers with some random strangers we saw sitting at a patio bar in Maastricht Netherlands, it is always one of the highlights of my year and create stories for a lifetime
- Keep the fights clean and the sex dirty. That’s my marriage advice
- Never have more than three hobbies or sideprojects outside work and it works bet if they are modeled on these three. One that is fun and games, one that makes you learn or improves your health, one that makes you money
- Don’t gamble. I’m already in very risky investments with options and domain investing. It’s a form of gambling in itself. Sports gambling and casinos have zero return long term. Literally guaranteed loss. A complete waste of your time and probably your money. Put the time you would use to do team research into more productive entities.
- Read. Your body needs the relaxation and your brain needs the stimulus
- Excercise. It’s doesn’t matter what or how much but your body and mind need it. The first thing a doctor will tell you when you have axiety is to get more exercise. It helps relieve it.
- Do something nice when you think of it. Don’t wait to some holiday. If you are thinking about someone call them, send them a small gift, tell them personally. Let those who you are thinking about or thankful for exactly that. It will make their day
- I don’t spend crazy amounts of money on food or drinks. It’s not that I don’t enjoy a great meal or drinks with friends, it’s that there are few things that have a shorter amount of pleasure than those two. Add to it that my wife is an amazing cook and spending hundreds on food that is not as good as hers doesn’t make sense to me. If I’m going to spend stupid money on something it better give me a story that will last a lifetime or be something I enjoy for a longer period of time.
- Patience. Most don’t have it but those that do are always better off than those that don’t
- Surround yourself with greatness. You are worthless alone. You may think you’re good but that’s because you haven’t been part of the right team. A great team swallows the solo
