Most people don’t know that I made some decent money on the sale of voice.com. I didn’t own the domain itself but after then sale I bought some shares of the company. Every time I see a huge domain sale I always tell myself “I wish I had a piece of that”. In this case I was able. Because the seller of Voice.com for $30 million was Microstrategy MSTR. Travis texted me that they had a heck of a domain collection and that I should take a look. So I went and looked at their portfolio and its fantastic. But I also saw they had $500 million in cash in the bank and were valued at a billion dollars. I love companies with huge cash hoards that are viewed negatively by the public. All they have to do get the ship headed in the right direction and use their cash to buy companies that are doing well.
But that’s not why I bought the options. I bought them because I didn’t think anyone priced in the sale of voice. It was public but when I saw predicted sales for the quarter there was no increase with the sale and nobody talked about it. So I bought $1200 worth of Jan 2020 150 calls at $2.70. I planned on holding them a little longer but the stock had a nice little bump this week and wanted to take some profit so I sold them for $7.50. A nice little $2500 profit which I am going to use to buy a nice laptop, all courtesy of Voice.com. I may put the $1200 back into shorter term options on the company but I’m really liking MGI MoneyGram right now. There is a lot of money in non bank account owning people send money. (don’t buy, that is what I’m doing, not what I think you should)
