Domain Spotlight:

Domain Shane’s Daily List of Domains at Auction for Sunday August 23rd, 2020

After 30 years of building a business and buying and selling assets, at this point in my life I really don’t need any financial advice. Not saying I’m an expert, I’m always learning, but 95% of what I hear, I know. Of course I have no problem talking about what I’ve done and experienced, but what people should do is really up to them. I never pretend my world of financial advice is good for anyone or everyone.

The risk levels that we all feel comfortable is different for each person. As is the level of liquidity. To say that investing in a domain is “better” that bitcoin, or a house, or baseball cards may or may not be true. If you don’t have the ability to tie up for money for 5 to 10 years then a domain may not be right for you. If you have to sell because you need some cash you may get 5-10% of what you could sell it for to an end user. The blanket statement that domains are one of the best investment you can make is overall true. But there’s a lot that needs to happen to make the statement correct. And modern day investors probably don’t have parking or porn revenue to keep the cashflow available while they wait for it to become true.

If you read my twitter you know that I’m storing my money in Bitcoin. My experience tells me that when a government prints a trillion dollars and puts it in the hands of its people, inflation tends to follow. Sure its good for spending but it was artificially placed into the system and makes the existing currency worth less. Basic economics. In short, I’d rather have my money in bitcoin. I didn’t feel the same way pre COVID. That’s the beauty of investing. You learn and change your mind as you learn.

Real Estate is the hot market. Commercial is tumbling and offers value and personal homes are selling like hotcakes because interest rates are low and people want to upgrade their safe space . Like anything else it comes down to the return. There are two sides to every crash. The great deal that you get on the downturn and the person that got burned when it happened. To pretend like you’re only gong to be on one side of that in real estate is naive. You will here about the great buys but not much about the time they had to sit on a property for a decade because they couldn’t move it at break even.

The real answer to how to make money is have lots of it to start. It takes out the problem of liquidity. It means you always have money to buy on the panic and distress. And it means you can take on more risk because there is more money to draw from and the kids won’t go hungry if you F up.

If you have an auction you want to promote, email us for details.*All names chosen by us, Shane and Josh . (ie you click through and purchase a name you like) or an occasional paid listing. Everything we say is based on our own research or is opinion. Do your own due diligence. That means look it up yourself if you don’t think the stats or our opinion is correct. We hand choose the names but we are paid to make this list by both the auction houses, individuals that are auctioning names, and Godaddy affiliate links. Keep that in mind and only buy names that YOU think are good.
