So I had a twitter follower ask me to start listing what domains I bid on at auction and what I paid. I can’t list ever single name I bid on but I can list a few every once in a while and tell you why I bid , how much I bid, and final price. It gives you an idea of what I am thinking. I don’t have some secret method to my madness. I have a wheelhouse that I feel comfortable with and I usually stay in it. The reason I won’t share everything is I don’t want to spend the time. This is a free blog and I deliver equal value to what readers are paying for content.
Here are two names that I bid on a few days ago
PlantGel.com I bid on this one because plant gel is the gel people cut flowers in to make them last longer. But I thought it could be much more than that. Some gel either made from a plant or for a plant. The canna space is also growing so it could go that route. I bid $488 and walked away. It ended up closing at $520. I probably would have paid $550 for it but I set the price and came back to see the results. Wasn’t good enough name for me to watch it live and if I really wanted it I would have put a much higher bid in.
UrbanSoil.com I liked this one because I though it might go cheap for under $200. A good clothing line. Maybe a potting soil. Again, another cannabis product. I initially bid $305 and forgot about it. But I got the “You’ve been outbid ” email and I decided I would go a little higher. I put in a price that in hindsight I thought was a little high at $355. I ended up getting sniped at $358 while I was helping customers at work. So I almost got it. If I would have getting the name I would have put a $3800 BIN for the rest of the year for a quick turn. Adjusted after that.
That was all I bid on at GD on Thursday. There were a few others that I liked but knew that they would be higher than I was willing to pay. I usually buy a few names a week on Godaddy depending on how many I sold that week. I try and put 70% of my money back into more domains. Saving 20% for taxes (yes my tax rate is higher so I have to take 100% of some sales) and 10% to have fun and buy things. I’ll keep doing these reports if readers find it interesting. Otherwise I’ll tell more stories about molesting country singers. Here are today’s domains. Hope you find a good one. Click to see the latest price
A special thank you to Dave from ThinkDomains.com for sending me two cases of cooling towels for the employees at the nursery. He couldn’t have timed it any better as we had over 100 degree heat index this weekend. He made me look like a hero as I handed them out. An incredible gesture. And another thank you to whoever sent me the Yeti 45 cooler. It was from Amazon and all it said was “Keep up the good work, have a cold drink on me” I can’t thank one of you enough. It really is the most amazing cooler I’ve seen. I’ve had it two days and hardly any of the ice has melted. On days I think of quitting blogging I can come back to this week. Amazing people in this world. Thanks Dave and somebody.

Have a name at auction and need more exposure? Send me an email. We Charge $10 per name per day. We may be able to help. If you have an auction you want to promote, email us for details.*All names chosen by us, Shane and Josh . (ie you click through and purchase a name you like) or an occasional paid listing. Everything we say is based on our own research or is opinion. Do your own due diligence. That means look it up yourself if you don’t think the stats or our opinion is correct. We hand choose the names but we are paid to make this list by both the auction houses, individuals that are auctioning names, and Godaddy affiliate links. Keep that in mind and only buy names that YOU think are good
Shane, yes, please share some of your buys/sold stories. it’s very informative and helpful. Thanks
Yes I agree. Please continue to share your thoughts on some of the domains you’ve bid on! It’s much appreciated.
Sounds like I will have to share my daily bids.
I would like more bidding stories too!
Hey, Shan, I am glad you started sharing your bids and thoughts on sold domains. Thanks, great stuff!
Shane, please keep this going. It’s very helpful and brings the realism into what can often seem so theoretical at times. Thanks for the great writing.
Come on Shane .. you have TWO hands ..
One to molest country stars with .. and one to blogs about your bids with! 😉
