What legacy are you leaving? When all is said in done at the end of the day what did you do to make others around you better? As I’ve gotten older I’ve realized that is the true question one should ask themselves. You have to start by taking care of yourself but then you expand from there. Add children into the mix and you quickly realize the meaning of responsibility and legacy.
I truly enjoy making money. Running a company. Buying things. I was never poor but at every level of success there is the person above you that you wish to become. Until you stop looking up and start looking out you will never be satisfied and you will spend so much time climbing that you forget to live. Looking out doesn’t mean you lose your drive. Work less hours. To me it merely means that you are working for a much broader scope of things. I now get just as much joy out of watching others move up the financial ladder and improving their lives. Watching an employee work hard at the nursery and pay for their child to be the first to go to college makes me as proud as sending my own. Leaving God and the Earth with a daughter that is a better person than me has always been my goal. What I haven’t done, I hope I can raise a child or mentor a person that can fill that void.
I feel that changing that look has enabled me to actually do better in business. I see things clearer. I have no excuses. Anxiety of success is gone and I can let my experience take over. People take this as being cocky and some say its insecurity. I just call it experience and age. I always have doubt but it doesn’t worry me. I am 100% going to leave everything around me better than when I came. I have surrounded myself with family, friends, and a God that make all things possible. I have made a ton of mistakes along the way. I’m sure some people have been negatively impacted by my decisions. Unfortunately that’s how life works. As we learn sometimes those around us are the ones that take the hurt. The goal is to be net positive. I no longer try and silence the criticism but take it in. They are either right, they don’t understand the entire situation, or they are just making assumptions. My job is to figure out which and make improvements.
Great times are ahead for everyone that get uncomfortable on a daily basis and move forward. If you do it long enough and well enough you’ll leave a legacy. A financial legacy is great but just as important is the legacy of the people you touched and helped. That’s my sermon of the day. Here are today’s names.
