Domain Shane’s Daily List of Domains at Auction for Thursday July 23rd, 2020

Our school in Illinois are for the most going to 1 or 2 days. Maybe 3. The worst part about COVID is not the threat of death, its the long term damage the low income students are experiencing. To many low income students the only direction and mentorship they get is from teachers and coaches. So many kids don’t have the greatest home life. Often from homes where a single parent is working hard to keep the family fed and sheltered. Sports and school give the kids structure. Is a single parent supposed to stay home and tutor the kids for the 3 days they aren’t in school? Take away sports and what do they do all day? The teachers unions are saying its for the kids health all while at the same time asking for their work weeks to go to 4 days. Using one day to plan. What are the doing all summer. 3 months of pay that is supposed to be for planning the school year.

My Mom is a teacher. I love teachers. More than ever we realize the hard work necessary and the time the put in to our children. Often paying for supplies out of their own pocket when the district or children don’t have the money. But now is the time to stand up and protect these children. Not from Covid but from life. Will there be risk. Of course. Masks have to be worn at all times. Testing has to be done. But at some point there has to be some risk taken in order to prevent a collapse of society. Not the wealthy. They have options. They can add on tutors to fill the gaps the schools are leaving. They can afford daycare and people to watch their kids. It’s the low income that are getting left behind yet again. “I’m not willing to risk my life for a semester of school” is what I’m hearing at the school board meetings. Not in those exact words but its essentially what they are saying. Yet they say it as “we need to protect the children” . In my opinion getting kids in school protects them more than out on their own.

This has been my political rant of the month. Now on to your regularly scheduled domaining program.
