Where I’m from people judge you more on your ability to back up a trailer than how much money you have. As a matter of fact, it’s almost impossible to tell who has money and who doesn’t. In Central Illinois, if you even think about judging a person by their clothes or how muddy their boots are, you’re leaving a sale at the door. An acre of land around here goes for about $10-15K. There are many farmers that own 1000 plus acres. Even more than own 500. I can name a dozen that own 3000 or more. Thats 5 million to 50 million depending on the quality and amount of land. Add oughly $350 per acre in cash rent or more if you farm it and you can see there is a ton of wealth in the area. You want to impress someone around here you don’t flash your cars or your nice clothes. Nobody cares and actually they will call you new money or come and go money. You want to impress them take a long trailer and back it down their quarter mile drive. That will get you an invite to dinner or a free cup of coffee.
What made me think of this was a truck driver we had yesterday. It was a female driver. That actually had zero to do with her being a woman but rather an inexperienced driver. Inexperienced is being kind. She was easily the worst semi driver I had ever seen. She could not back her truck down our road. A process that 100s of truckers had done thousands of times this year. She overcompensated for every move of the trailer to the point she almost hit everything in site. It took her 40 minutes to do something that normally could be done in 5. We finally had to hop in and do it ourselves. The customers that had stopped in all gathered around and she became the entertainment of the morning, making it even more nerve-racking for her. They were laughing and smiling the entire time. It was funny for the first 15 minutes and then it became a problem because I had another semi due in an hour. I also felt that she was not fit to drive that big truck. The thought of her driving at 70 mph scared the shit out of me. And again, it had nothing to do with being a woman. Some of the best drivers I know are women.
So keep that in mind when you come to the country. They will talk domains and investments but if you can’t drive a skid steer, tractor, or haul a trailer, then its just a good story. Here are today’s names. Make sure to click on the names to see the current price and to help DSAD keep on keeping on.

We stopped the mailing list because we hadn’t sent one out in 7 years. Probably need to take that down

Totally funny. About once a year I see what truck drivers are making and think maybe I should do it. Then I see one trying to get through town or back into a tiny dock and think…maybe not 🙂
Agree cooking.com is crazy big. Some of you big dogs should pool together on it.
completely agree – cooking.com is one of the best names I’ve ever seen. I want it.
