If I were to tell someone that if you worked for 5 years every single day, 2 hours a day, and would make at best $20 a day but if you did, then you would make $200 or more per day for decades to come. All while still working the two hours. I think most people would take a pass. I think they take the pass because it’s not 100% guaranteed. I guess it depends on your “other” income sources. Your general need for money. And whether you felt I was telling the truth. The fact is most people aren’t willing to put in years of work with little pay in hopes of building something great. I’m never sure if its that they don’t believe in themselves, have better things to do with their time, or are lazy. Might be a little of each.
Domain investment requires this if you are going to bootstrap your portfolio. You have to sell and build the portfolio, sell and build the portfolio. Throw in a lot of patience and waiting and you have your business model. Now you just have to figure out what names to sell and build. Or you could build another entity to help feed the portfolio, like a website on online business. This is what I did. I wasn’t patient enough so I started writing. That writing has added a lot of extra money to help me be more patient and not have to touch my “real” paychecks. But it was ugly early. For many, many years I worked for a couple dollars a day. It was fun, exciting, but less than profitable.
Now when people ask how I bought my portfolio and had money to buy domains the price of cars I tell them 10,000 hours. I put 10,000 hours in to reading, writing, and studying domains before I really started making money. It wasn’t the claimed good old boys club, outside cash, or the affiliate money from this site. The latter part is an important part of my business model but the balance is experience. It’s hard to teach that. You can get it faster by doing things like going through DNAcademy but it will take time. Time that most won’t do. The key is can you learn what is a good domain investment in the time it takes to run out of money and patience. Most won’t. Here are today’s names. Click through to see the current price

Great post today.
10,000 hours. Sounds about right. And that is ten thousand SMART hours (and money, blood, sweat, and tears). Seems the general population usually wants the instant gratification.
I am here just because of this, thanks ShaneCultra
