Hi Rich, Yes this did happen and I had no issue with the feedback received. I didn’t back out because of the market. I just couldn’t arrange the funds in time that the seller wanted.
If I had two $5 million mansions to sell, I wouldn’t leave it up to a rookie agent to sell them. This is either blatant foolishness on the part of the owner(s) or some kind of nepotism/connection in the works beneath the surface. Also, brokering domains doesn’t make one a domain investor; maybe a domainer with huge connections but investor, no.

You ever seen Selling NY or Selling LA? They are some of the biggest real estate guys in the biz now and most are VERY young. Just because you are new to domains doesn’t mean you are new to the world. Domains are no different than any other product. And if I am giving my $5 million dollar mansions to someone to sell. I am giving them to the person with the most connections, I don’t don’t care how long they’ve been in the business. The world is run on nepotism and connections. There is no such thing as “I did it on my own”. For every person that think he/she did it by themselves is a group of people behind him that isn’t getting any credit.

I feel bad for the true newbies. There is a lot of unmerited and misdirected hype in domaining. Toby Clements and Adam Dicker got a lot of it in the past and they turned out to be two of the biggest douchebags. On the other hand, there are some megadomain investors you will never hear about because they make so much money they don’t need the attention or aggravation. Guys on the level of Rick Schwartz and Mike Berkens. I’ll give a shoutout to them. One owns Financing.com. Another owns wn.com.

There is always somebody bigger, better, faster and stronger than you are. Doesn’t make anyone less of a person. Just because Adam Dicker is a con artist doesn’t make everyone else a con artist. You have a fantastic domain (and probably portfolio) and so do the guys you mentioned. You can tell you hit a nerve with me because I am the 5th generation owner of my family nursery. Everyone says I am successful because my name and my family gave me my position and money. I was given opportunity. And I ran with that opportunity. I am offended every time someone says I didn’t earn what I have.
As for newbies. We are all newbies at some point in this business. But that didn’t make me naive. I didn’t know a soul when I cam here. I went to a conference solo and not invited to a single dinner or after party. But I met a few people who introduced me to a few people and by the end of the event I had made some great connections. So I don’t feel sorry for newbies. I don’t chastise those that have “ins” . Every step along the way requires due dillegence. All of life does. I celebrate hard work, I congratulate people such as yourself who have built a great portfolio, and most of all, I am learning to not be spiteful of those that have things I want or wish I had. That’s been harder for me. To learn that knocking people down doesn’t bring me up.
Hi Tony, I appreciate the comment. The reason these 2 sellers gave me the names to sell was due to the fact I closed $3m in sales in my first 5 months brokering. They believe that I can get the results and I will do everything in my power to do so. I haven’t been handed any connections as my buyers are all based in Asia which is where I live so I go out and find them. Cheers, James

It just sounds like more hype when domain veterans sometimes make it seem like it is easy to break into domaining. It is not. Not saying you did that. I don’t recall any other new extension sales being viewed with such skepticism.

I think keyword.xyz is great if you are going to build it out. tough to sell in the resale market for a while. Unless its a very strong brand or keyword.
