I haven’t bought any NGTLD’s since the beginning and I’ve only sold a few for low prices. I see the value in the concept but I don’t see the demand. I won’t discourage anyone from trying them out or buying and holding them for the right time, but for me it’s not worth the effort.
I disagree with the whole premise that there wasn’t enough available names, or whatever the reasoning was. That doesn’t make any sense to me, every website in the world could fit on .com, not to mention all the other possibilities with the CCTLD’s.
Then there’s the confusion issue. Am I really gonna brand my business on a new extension where the span the dot domain is the same as the .com that I don’t own? No, because as things currently stand I would just be giving traffic to the .com. Then I’d have to try and acquire the .com so what would be the point. Here’s a random example, If there were a .jet TLD and I have a great idea to build a business on Name.jet, because all the good .com’s are taken, I gain nothing. It would be better for me to build the business on MyNameJet.com or NameJet1.com, the options are endless. Obviously the Name.jet domain is intrinsically better than something like NameJet1.com. But it doesn’t matter, because that name in .com is owned by someone else so I gain nothing. If I own both I gain nothing.
So with that in mind, I’ve spun up some keyword + app .com’s. If you see any you like they’re available to register.
