I dropped my daughter off at summer camp today. It’s crazy how fast they grow up. You hear that line all the time, but it’s so true.
We did a fishing tournament together on the river Friday night. 12 hours is a long time for an 8 year old to sit in a boat, but she did a great job. She brought a pillow and slept during the night, but she woke up and grabbed the net for me when I asked. I told her she could name our team and she named us “Caticorn” which I thought was a pretty good name considering it was a catfish tournament.
We didn’t win but we caught a 31 pound flathead and a couple small ones for a total of 40 pounds. I think we were in the top 10 with a total of 49 boats in the tournament.
For us it’s not really about catching fish, but more about making experiences and spending time together. Too often we slip into the easier but meaningless, mindless video games and movies. They’re fun sometimes, but nothing beats getting out and doing something.
