IKE’S LIST OF DOMAINS AT AUCTION FOR Saturday, December 15th

Escrow.com

I’m not really sure what’s going on with today’s auction, maybe someone’s API bidding tool is broken. There’s about 30 7N’s with bids and a bunch of 4L org’s.  There’s nothing special about either group that I can tell. Normal 6n chips, normal as in nothing fancy, have been dropping all month. A few weeks ago there was around 15K of them and most are still available to register.

It seems insane wasting money buying 6n’s at auction, and completely bat shit crazy buying 7n’s in any setting. This from someone that had a quite of few of both. 🙂 I actually can still see the value of 6n’s theoretically, but not practically. I used to think that since anyone can remember a 7 or 10 digit phone number a 6 digit numeric domain is super easy to remember, but who remembers phone numbers anymore? I used to have all kinds of phone numbers memorized simply from the frequency of use, but now I couldn’t tell you 95% of the numbers I call regularly.

Speaking of phones, I get a ton of spam and robo calls. I think everyone does, but I made the mistake of using my real phone number  on the whois info a couple of years ago. That was a mistake, even before the IRS scam calls, I would get calls from India from “app developers” who were scraping whois data.

I don’t answer numbers I don’t have in my phone unless I’m expecting a call, but it’s still a pain in the ass silencing my phone 25 times a day as the same scams spoof different numbers.

I found a fun solution in an app. It’s called RoboKiller, and it screens and answers suspected spam or robo calls with funny prerecorded messages. You can listen to the recording of  spammer trying and talk to your random or selected fake message.

Rando.com or RanDo.com  probably works better as the first one, nice little brandable or a single word that means: “a person one does not know, especially one regarded as odd, suspicious, or engaging in socially inappropriate behavior.”

  1. The number domains have fascinated me. Apparently based on scarcity, and the Chinese demand. However, no end user uses one. At least SOME Dutch did use tulips.
