IKE’S LIST OF DOMAINS AT AUCTION FOR Tuesday, December 4th

Dec 04 2018

Escrow.com

As Shane posted yesterday,  the latest DomainSherpa.com review came out Monday. Shane talked about mixing it up on the show in the future because the portfolios are so bad. I remember several years ago Cyger would take one domain  submission from anyone that wanted to submit a name for the upcoming show. There might be 30 domains but all from different people. I always like this idea because every week I’d have a chance to see if the domain I submitted was talked about. Maybe they should bring this back or do it every once in awhile.

Another idea is to have the submitter give an explanation as to why the hell they registered the name, followed by their thought process on why this name, out of all they might own, was submitted for review. That would give the Sherpa’s points to discuss with the submitter, and not just politely dismiss the portfolio as the registrations of a lunatic. But damn, It is unfathomable to me that so many people just keep doing the same things over and over. I mean there is no way these people are watching the other episodes and thinking, “hmmm, maybe my names are different and awesome”. It’s time for tough love, feelings may get hurt, but you’ll be better for it. You’ll not only save money, you might actually make some too.

Maybe the point’s not being made clearly and loudly enough: WILL SOMEONE OR SOME BUSINESS BUY THIS DOMAIN? When it comes down to it, that is the only question that matters. I have a hard time believing the portfolio submitter was like “hells yes! Jackpot! I just bought Upper Abdomen in the .com! You hear that? Ching Ching, that’s the sound of the cash register bringing in the money!”

I pulled some domains that are available to register based on some of the root words used in the list. I didn’t even like most of the root words that made up the list, but I used them anyway. As always, these names may not sell, may not even be “good” domains, but I think they’re better than the submitted list. They were all previously registered so they’re not potential traditional “hand registrations” I’m calling these “reg fee resurrections”, names that were deleted at some point in the past.

Josh, the Sherpa team will listen to you and Shane – perhaps not us commoners. Can you guys propose these two ideas? If you go to a “Taste of…” food fair, you do not have 20 dishes from the same chef – you have one from each. If you step into a restaurant and the first dish is steaming poo, there is no need to stay to sample all of the dishes.

What would be AWESOME would be to see both implementations. Users submit their best name and why they bought it, who they think will buy it and price expectations. Just a few sentences. Then the Sherpas can agree or disagree and why. IMO that would turn that portion of the show to the not so amazing part to the most informative, helpful, and interesting part.

A couple years ago Mike had everyone submit their best 3 names to be reviewed live at Namescon. He culled all of the names to like 50 or so. Then Shane, Frank, and Drew picked their top three names from the short list and gave their reasons why they liked it. Was I the only one that LOVED THAT?

Hallelujah! One submission from anyone that wanted to submit a name … Give an explanation as to why the hell they registered the name. Great idea’s Josh! I’ve only been doing this “Domain Thing” a few years now, but as I watch the shows, even I think WTF are these people thinking? 😊

    Hi Josh,
Do the submitted portfolios have to be all hand registered domains? If not I would be more than willing to share mine. I have some hand reg names but not many. My port is predominantly from auctions and private acquisitions. Please keep up the good work.
    Cheers

I like the idea of mixing it up I do not think that the portfolio review should be completely removed from the show. What about doing something simlar to what Chris said but a little different.

Like let’s say people submit there best 5 domains and the sherpas decide what names to select for review. If your name gets selected you donate $10
review 20 names per show. 20 good names from 20 different people.

    Just a idea
