IKE’S LIST OF DOMAINS AT AUCTION FOR Tuesday, February 12th

Escrow.com

We had snow, freezing rain, rain and now it’s sleeting today in Md and PA.  In an effort to embrace winter I bought my daughter and I ski passes to the the local ski resorts. You really can’t call them mountains, but they’re not too bad. You go up the lift and ski back down just like in Colorado, except here it only takes 15 seconds to get to the bottom.

I bought the passes as part of the club system, I had to find a local ski club and log in with their password. It’s valid 4 to close and it’s a lot cheaper than the regular season pass and pays for itself if you go 3 times. I forgot how crazy the prices are to ski, I thought about getting my 9 year old a lesson, lift and rental package for the evening, just to let her try it out first. That would have been almost $100 itself just for maybe 5 hours of skiing. It made me think that if I were running the place I’d give kids free or almost free lift tickets, just to get them interested in the sport.

The only problem with my whole skiing venture is that my damn boots hurt my feet so bad I just want to roll down the mountain. I thought I had it figured out, but I went the other night and had crazy pain riding up the lift, stopped 5 times coming down the mountain and then just left. I think they’re the right size, I still need to try heating them up and making a custom fit.

The real problem is that I’m being stupid. I should have bought the boots at a local ski shop instead of online. The moment I knew  there was a problem I should have gone to a specialist and had them figure it out, but no I’ve watched a few dozen videos, tried wearing the boots around the station at work.  This might be ok if I had plans to become a ski boot guru myself but I don’t. So tomorrow or the next day, I’ll take the damn things to a professional and submit to their boot knowledge and skills.

I can think of numerous situations where I work harder instead of smarter for no reason other than my own arrogance.  The boots are a reminder to me that sometimes it’s better to pause and think about the best way to do something rather than blindly plunging ahead.

  1. Painful ski boots will completely ruin a ski trip. The first time I skied and rented boots, I got the less expensive kind with 3 bindings that weren’t very adjustable. I skied down the mountain once in massive pain, took them off at the base of the mountain and walked into the bar in my socks and sat there the rest of the day. Went back to the ski place and got the more expensive boots with 4 highly adjustable bindings, and they worked great. If the first boots were all that were made, I would never have skied again.
