Domain Spotlight:

Before this week’s domains, a quick shout out to Darko for a nice article which looks at this series of domain development posts, and highlights some trends he saw from looking at over 75 of these articles. He pulled out some commonalities which are good to be aware of when you’re buying or selling domains.

The screenshots below are examples of buyers of domains from the past year that have either developed their sites, or purchased an upgrade domain and have redirected their acquisition to an existing website.

FAQEO.com sold for $495 through DomainAgency.com, and the buyer is in the process of building a Q & A site. Brian Berke put up another great post yesterday with a refreshingly candid review of one type of domain he’s been buying and selling. If you haven’t read it yet, please head there….you’ll get more actionable feedback than you will in this post. 🙂 Brian hand registered FAQEO.com less than a year ago….making it a really profitable flip.

AYEVO.com sold for $150 through DomainAgency.com, and the buyer is building a smart home company, “so you can talk to your house through your phone or your voice”. This was another sale Brian mentioned yesterday, and he hand registered the domain only four months ago.

GainX.com sold for $2,500 at Sedo, and they describe themselves as, “the world’s ONLY Innovation Strategy Management software designed to help you achieve greater return on innovation spend.” “GainX was founded in 2012 by Angelique Mohring, a former technology executive and global change agent, who has worked with Fortune50s and Global1000’s for over two decades. “

UrbanMatter.com sold for $2,499 at Sedo. It’s the home of a Chicago entertainment guide, and the domain was needed as part of a rebrand from “Chicago Genie”, which was a rebrand from “Plugg”, when they resided at GoPlugg.com. “UrbanMatter shares the most trusted and on-trend info on local music, restaurants, nightlife, culture, and lifestyle. We live for what really matters.”

Moxleys.com sold for $2,495 at Sedo, and the domain was an upgrade from MoxleysInc.com. They’re a 60+ year old truck parts and equipment company based in Maryland. I love stories like this……the company “started in a small garage doing small welding jobs for area farmers. From there he added machine shop, steel warehouse and welding supplies. In the mid 70’s an oxygen plant was installed. In the 80’s the driveline department was added and in the 90’s, the truck equipment division was added and became a mainstay for customers throughout the State of Maryland.”

DatingOffers.com sold for $2,000 at Sedo, and the company “offers industry leading conversions and affiliate traffic tools to empower our affiliates to earn the most from their traffic.”
