Oof. Rough night.
I woke up at 3:30-ish (Saturday morning) feeling paranoid because it sounded like a big truck was idling right outside the house (I have no window that overlooks the street in my bedroom). After about 15 mins of trying to convince myself I was just hearing things, I got up to to check it out. Here’s what I saw:
What the hell??
There were about 10 fire truck and other vehicles parked outside my house. It was about 4 in the morning. I could see more up the hill, where the road curves to the left at the edge of this pic.
It was -12 with a -33 windchill, so I suited up and went to find out wtf was going on.
Turns out a house up the street had caught on fire. Destroyed the house. Everyone got out OK, apparently, but wow. I walked up the street today (-24 degree windchill) to see what had happened.
Still smoking, about 12 hours later.
The water they used to put out the fire froze, beautifully, tragically on the burnt-up frame.
Aside from thoroughly messing up my sleep, it also brought up some pretty powerful memories of when my own house burned down when I was 16. It was quite the life-altering experience, but I guess that’s a story for another day…

TrainingYourself.com – A nice “by your bootstraps” sounding brand. Could be good for a Masterclass-type competitor (better raise some funds though…)

Ethereu.ms – Sell your ethereums, buy some weeds to smoke in your houses and sell your domains name during the works day. Almost a cool hack, but no one talks like that… Huge reserve. That’s a 0/10 for me
