Yesterday was my 26th anniversary. Longer than my parents were married and 50 years short of how long my grandparents were married. I’ve written about this many times over the past decade but in my mind you are less than one when you are partnered with the wrong person and more than 2 when partnered with the right one. Nothing in life is a good experienced alone as it is with a good partner. Ever hit a hole in one with nobody around? Not the same experience as it is with other people. It’s not to say that life can’t be great on your own, only saying that if you think it is better alone you haven’t met the right partner yet. A partner that you smile every time you see. A partner that makes you feel more comfortable that they’re around. Even if they’re in another room. A partner that can yell at you, nag at you, or tell you to be better and 5 minutes later its all good. Even after 26 years.
I’ve always said that the best thing you can do for a young child is simply love their mother. A child cares more about their Mother than themselves and when they see their Mother being take care of themselves they feel at ease and loved as well. They see what is possible and yearn for that too. There will be nothing I accomplish on this earth and no better decision I will ever make, than the decision to ask my wife out to breakfast after a late night party 28 years ago. I can go to sleep each night knowing that I did great. I picked the perfect woman and had the best child. I still plan to experience many more years with these women but regardless of where it goes or how long it lasts, I’m good. I’m good
