Shane’s Daily List of Domains at Auction for Monday, April 17th, 2023

Flying has always been hit or miss, but damn, is it a miss now. Over half of flights are delayed, and my last six flights have all been delayed. Yesterday’s was classic. A flight to the Grand Cayman was at the gate, scheduled to leave 3 hours before mine. The flight was from Newark, and evidently, two of the flight attendants went into the city for Saturday night entertainment. They called in sick. That flight can find a flight attendant, but they won’t cancel it, so they “are coming,” and the plane is sitting at the gate.

That is all fine, but my plane needs that gate. Why not just move my plane to another gate? Evidently, they are booked up solid, and there isn’t a single gate they can use. They haven’t said that, but it’s my assumption. So I sat for hours waiting for a plane that isn’t even mine. Honestly, I would love to go to Grand Cayman. After sitting in Newark all day, I deserve Grand Cayman. But the young ladies did finally make it in. Literally, the entire airport cheered them 300 yards to the gate – a ticker tape parade. They raised their hands like they won the World Series, and I have to admit, it made a bad situation kind of worth it. The girls looked like they had a great time the night before – a good-looking, fun group. That Grand Cayman flight is going to be worth the wait. But wait they will, we will. Because they thought they weren’t coming. So United booked a whole other flight crew that had to come. People lost their patience. United brought out a little snacks cart to make up for it but it didn’t do it.

I don’t see travel getting any better. People are now expecting it and still traveling more than ever. I have never seen an airport more congested than Newark on Sunday – never. I have been in the biggest airports in the world. I also have never seen things more expensive. A turkey sandwich was $22, and a bottle of Diet Coke was $5. Evidently, Disney Theme Parks are setting the prices. I think the fact that there is Wi-Fi and charging stations everywhere makes people content. It actually surprises me. There is hope for humanity. What I don’t think there is hope for is a simple on-and-off 2-hour flight to NY.
