I love the new Clubhouse app. Spent half the weekend on it exploring and listening and I think it’s got a great future. But I absolutely don’t love that some people in our industry are “pushing” dot club as a great money-making opportunity for new investors. Clubhouse is a great way for new investors to learn about domain investing but the first taste they get is dot club. Ryan Colby and his new venture DRE Academy seem to be leading the charge. A charge that is playing the greater fool card and people are buying it. Literally. Combine the 99 cent, $2.99 promo that dot club is offering ,and people are getting the “Why not? its only $50 or $100” feeling. I watched hours and hours of uneducated and educated people who truly think they are ahead of the big clubhouse explosion. If only they would have spent that time and money at DNAcademy they could actually learn something and make some money. Think about it. This isn’t even close to the Chinese rush back a few years ago. Where BILLIONS of people starting giving value to numbers. Andy yet the results were, a ton of people made money but most people were left holding the bag. There’s not enough fools at Clubhouse to play the greater fool game. The money makers are the pushers and the dealers. They are hoping to sell dot club to the people that listen to these talks and hear of possible riches. They even used words like “the next bitcoin”. Many of the skeptical seasoned investors were kind to the new investors as they should be, but were honest. Yet the newbies didin’t want to hear it. They had a milion what ifs, or you’re old school, answers. All weekend, brokers pushing these names to people. Spending hours and hours selling hope. It lasted 10 hrs a day both Saturday and Sunday. It was exhausting. I agree on the “maybe this could happen” but I truly think that Clubhouse will be a hit and all the creativity and extracurricular will be done within the app. Name one domain or tld that has tagged tik tok,Insta, Facebook, Snapchat, Twitter. Nothing. The apps are everything and all business and money is made within. When people tried to bring users outside or sell add ons, the company just created something to bring it to the app. I do think dot club is a fine tld. There are plenty of real use cases. But I don’t believe Clubhouse added to that value. Only to the registry. It is a million dollar bonus to the registry. And of course, I could be wrong. I am wrong every day. We’ll come back to this in a year
