Shane’s Daily List of Domains at Auction for Sunday, August 29th, 2021

I am so thankful I am almost done marathon training. Race is Sept. 11th and it’s been a hot summer for training. Summer is always hot but this one seemed hotter than normal. For people in Texas and down south its probably just called summer. At 52 trying to run 16-23 miles once a week at sub 7 minute pace is hard on the body. And I have to go into work which is not exactly a desk job. I won’t lie, I’ve sat at my desk more than usual but the amount of calories I burn even then is ridiculous. I broke 3 hrs last year but it wasn’t official because the race organizers weren’t allowed to have an official race. I started at the start and used a timer but it doesn’t go on the Interwebs. I’m running the same course and running just as well as last year so I should be able to break 3 hrs again but there are a lot of things that can go bad.

I don’t mind the miles but the getting up every day at 4:30 am is what hurts. It cuts down on my sleep and is contradicting my exercise. I actually need more sleep but get less because I have to get it in before work. It takes a ton of discipline and motivation to make it through an entire cycle. I always mentally break down about a month before the race, regroup, and limp through the last few weeks. Happened again this year. I’m hoping that the cool weather and the down hill course will make running a bit easier for me. And when I’m done I’m going to take a few weeks off. And by off I mean 40 miles a week. I’m going to run another one in the fall but should have a good base by then and the weather is so much better.

As you read this you probably think “Why is he doing all this if it sucks so much?” It doesn’t suck, its just tough. Draining. It’s not always like that but it is towards the latter part of the cycle. I can see why people don’t do it or are satisfied with a 4 hours marathon. I see know point in just finishing a marathon. Tens of millions of people can do that. I wan’t to see how fast I can do it. I compare myself to similar aged men. I’m competing against myself to get better but I’m human and like to be better than others too. But winning gets you nothing but self satisfaction. That’s enough. It’s healthy to be proud of yourself. It feels even better when someone else realizes your hard work and dedication but it always starts with you realizing your efforts and what that got you. Mine has gotten me to be pretty fast. I’m not pretty doing it. I have zero natural ability. I’m a soccer player. My legs are huge and muscular. I’m pigeon toed. My arms don’t swing enough. But I’m good at it. And it makes me feel good. Isn’t that what everyone’s searching for? Something that makes them feel good

And sorry its going to be a Godaddy Only Today. Something came up last night and not able to get the other names on. I’ll make it up to Namejet, Sedo and Park.io tomorrow

  1. Shane, you look much older than 52. Make sure you wear sunscreen. Good luck on the race, were rooting for you
