Shane’s Daily List of Domains at Auction for Sunday, January 17th, 2021

Escrow.com
Remember when everyone was writing scripts to recode the DirecTv cards so people could get free DirecTV and movies. And then Adam Dicker’s company Satan’s Playground go nicked and he handed his customer list over to the Feds? I got sued because of it. I didn’t even steal the signal, I bought a card reader to see if it was a working card. But I wasn’t exactly no guilty. See I was selling the cards. I would put an ad in the paper saying I was buying old DirecTV units. I would take down the dish and buy the equipment for $150. I would recycle the metal and toss the units, keep the cards. I’d then sell the cards for $300 on eBay. I figured since I never touched the coding on the cards I wasn’t doing anything illegal. One day a guy called and he said he could get me cards directly from the factory that made them. Because he worked at the factory. He had seen my ad in Craigslist and figured that’s what I really wanted. I bough a couple cards and eventually starting buying 50 at a times. I would have been just fine except for that reader. I had to have it because I couldn’t exactly charge $300 for a bad cards nad I didn’t want to buy bad cards. But it was my downfall. I got sued for $100,000 and settled out of court. I settled because if I lost I had to pay $100K. It was much cheaper to pay them and my lawyer. By the time it was said and done I probably made about $5K after 1.5 years of work. I had made a ton more than that but DirectTv and the lawyers got it. In hindsight I should have stolen the signal because at least then I would have had 1.5 years of free sports and movies. I would have gotten the same lawsuit either way. And yes, I switched to dish

  1. “And yes I switched to dish “.Got me 🤣🤣🤣.

You really are adventurous Shane .This is one of the reasons I follow your blogs ,apart from the domain articles .

    👍

  2. For the record they got the records from the payment processor but not from me. I still have them if you want to see them 20 years later. They didn’t even get the domains from me. I kept them for years.

    1. I knew you didn’t really have a choice either way. I never blamed your company or you. We were thinking and doing the same thing. It was on us.
