Shane’s Daily List of Domains at Auction for Sunday, November 14th, 2021

Some of you that are old enough will remember Urban Cowboy. John Travolta, Gilly’s Bar. The whole world wanted to be Texas. The hottest movie in the country and everyone was line dancing. When I was in Jr. High we moved to Houston for a year. And we just happened to move during the release of Urbana Cowboy. Every person, every bar became a super version of the already very Texas Texas.

My Dad caught the fever. He’s an Illinois born and raised man. But he is 6 foot 6 and huge. Anorexic his is probably 240. A giant giant man. Throw a big cowboy hat and a pair of heeled Ostrich cowboy boots and he became the biggest person in every bar. But in every bar they were doing the 2 step (a dance). My Dad doesn’t dance. He looks like security. And dances like it. But he was determined to learn to 2 step. The only problem was there was no way and hell he was going to take dance lessons. So he had a plan.

My Dad’s best friend was a co worker. Chan. Chan was a little Chinese man that worked with him and they were polar opposites but best friends. Did a lot of work and most likely a lot of drinking and smoking together. (I can’t verify this, wasn’t really paying attention to this part of my Dad). My Dad always loved music. I can’t think of many weekend nights he didn’t have it blaring or listening to it on the headphones. Its the reason I know pretty much every song from 1960 to now. Obviously during this time it turned to Honky Tonk music. But one night I hear the music a little bit louder and all kinds of stomping going on. I run down to see what the heck is going on and there are my Dad and Chan. Arm in arm, sweating like mules dancing around the coffee table. One and two and one and two and. Around and around. Chan pulling away, giving him direction, and going back in for more two steppin. To this day its one of the funniest moments I’ve seen and something that’s burned into my brain. Sweaty Chan and the Giant dancing around the living room floor arm in arm. Damn I loved the early 80s.
