I am here to say that working with family is one of the toughest things you can do. I was given the opportunity by my Dad to run a business when I wasn’t ready to run it. And after all the suffering he went through as I grew, I now get to suffer as he refuses to hand over the reins. I’ve quit several times and despite being coOwners, we don’t even speak. As we got to know each other we decided we really don’t like each other. I know you’re going to say it’s a shame but the honest truth is he is a product of 80s business. The 80s were a time when businessmen put their work before their families. All in the ruse of saying they were just supporting the family. But the businessmen of the 80s were decadent. Cars and dress were important and working 80 hr weeks were common. I saw it with all my friends’ families. Some Dads were better than others but I witnessed internally some struggling families. A lot of divorces. Put that all in a mixing bowl and as you become an adult you either got Fathers that apologized for missing the time or relegated the conversations to big events and holidays.
To me that’s how life works. You get to pick your friends. You get to choose who your spouse and friends are. Family is handed to you and that can go a lot of ways. You’ve heard me talk about my Mom so you know who raised me and my feelings about her. Again, common for kids my age. Mom stays at home and is the rock. Dad comes home and goes to the soccer game or buys you something for missing it.
When you grow older you either emulate your parents or try and create a better scenario than you were handed. Fortunately I got the best of both my parents. Or at least I think I did. Hard working but always there for my family. Family comes first but my work still gets done. What I gave up was all the rest of the stuff. I made work fun so that filled the gap. I make sure to put a big smile on my wife and kids as often as I can. I set examples without having to give talks. Adjusting when I needed to adjust and giving in to keep everyone happy. Kids are easy. All they want is your attention and for you to love their Mother. Friends are easy. They want you to listen, bounce things off, laugh, and make them feel young. All the rest is the tough shit. It’s where the hard work lies.

Have a name at auction and need more exposure? Send me an email. We Charge $10 per name per day. We may be able to help. If you have an auction you want to promote, email us for details.*All names chosen by us, Shane and Josh . (ie you click through and purchase a name you like) or an occasional paid listing. Everything we say is based on our own research or is opinion. Do your own due diligence. That means look it up yourself if you don’t think the stats or our opinion is correct. We hand choose the names but we are paid to make this list by both the auction houses, individuals that are auctioning names, and Godaddy affiliate links. Keep that in mind and only buy names that YOU think are good.
Thanks for sharing the list. As always I love going through it.
There are couple of corrections need to be made:
KIQ.com to KIQ.io
BVC.com to BVC.vc
Only proves the loss to the dot com. Thanks for pointing it out. Fixed
lol.:) you made me smile as i am in almost the same position regarding family work and dad .despite all culture differences some things dont change. human is human and dad is dad.
Always great stories besides listings and thats why you became my no 1 domain blogger.
Keep up the good work Shane!
Have a very nice day!
Fatih,
Thank you for the kind words. It took the Internet for me to realize that everything I experienced in life wasn’t unique. It was unique in the way I process it and react but with billions of people in the world there is always others that are going through the same thing. To me that’s reassuring and I enjoy hearing others share their point of view so I share mine. Glad you get something out of it
I’ve probably written this before but worth doing again. Your frankness is incredibly refreshing and admirable. Takes strong character to do that.
Also, congrats so far on the F call options. Your balls of steel are only matched by your strength of character. 🙂
Thank you Tony. That is very kind. I’ve never feared the opinions of others on my truths.
