Shane’s Daily List of Domains at Auction for Wednesday, July 19th, 2023

People have picked up on the cheating. Everyone but Godaddy that is. Godaddy has a few policies that have to change. One is rewarding the second highest bidder if the bidders defaults. I outlined why in a tweet

There are some other things that Godaddy is getting taken advantage on. We get robbed of commission by people that run the cookies ahead of payments. Godaddy pays out cookies on the payment rather than the end of the auction. Costs us 5 figures a year. We also noticed a lot of reversals on our commission payments and got less than an honest answer from Godaddy as to why. I figured it out and I’m pretty sure they know it. Its the above. And some of those players must come through our site or our twitter account. All in all Godaddy is good for the industry and the people there are some of the nicest people in this industry. I hate to seem scammers get the money. I’d rather see Godaddy get it and the domain in the hands of someone that didn’t cheat. I’d also like to see it in ours if someone came through our site and bought a domain. 😂

  1. Hey Shane,
It looks like patex.com is a perfect example of the BS that is going on with GoDaddy. The last real bid is $303 by bidder 20. Bidders 19 and 21 ran up the price yesterday morning to where it stands now. BTW… the scam has evolved to where they sometimes will use a third shill bidder. I don’t know what commission you are paid but you have missed out on over $50K worth of domains won at auction this month from me alone. My GD rep tells me they are working on it but that is exactly what my old rep told me 9 years ago. Cheers

    1. Are you guys saying that multiple accounts are refusing to pay until it falls to some lower level real bid? Using two accounts to bid an auction sky high with just the winning account not paying doesn’t work – the 2nd bidder is also sky high. If multiple accounts are refusing to pay, then maybe the fix is only the 2nd highest bidder has a chance to purchase the domain. If one and two don’t pay, then GoDaddy takes possession of the name (if it’s an expiring domain) and puts it up for auction to qualified bidders since there isn’t time to auction it the normal way again.

  2. Travis,
From what I am getting from these comments, the 2 sham bidders are the same guy using different accounts. They keep bidding untill everyone else drops out. Then the guy controlling the 2 sham high bids doesn’t pay the high winning account. GD then gives it to the second highest bidder (same guy) at some point where he entered the bidding process. Correct me if I am wrong.

    1. Hey Tom, I agree with your take on it. I’m just saying that the 2nd highest bid is also way inflated. If so, the person doing this wouldn’t be helping themselves out. Don’t they give it to the highest bid from the 2nd bidder, or is it the highest bid from the 2nd bidder after any bids from other bidders than the highest bidder? If the latter, then I see the issue now.
