Shane’s List of Domains at Auction for Friday, August 29th, 2025

One of my biggest life lessons I got from Warren Buffet’s writings and had nothing to do with money. It was Inner Scorecard. His words are this. It’s the idea that you judge yourself according to your own principles, not by external validation like fame, wealth, or what others think. Buffett learned this from his father and it became central to how he conducts himself

It brings up the question. Would you rather have everyone think you are a great person and in reality you are horrible to people. Or would you be an incredible person but the outside world thinks you are jerk? Its not as easy as it seems to answer because there is a necessary balance. But it starts with concentrating on your inners scorecard. Holding an inner scorecard means you’re grounded in your values. You stay authentic under pressure, ignore others expectations, and make decisions aligned with what you truly believe is right, not based on outside praise or criticism.

It’s how I have lived for 20 years. I hold my personal expectations high. Often too high for those that are in my inner circle. You cheer the successes, but act like you’ll do it again. You don’t get bogged down in the failures because attempts at hard things lead to hard landings on rock some times. Yet with every thing you do, every decision you make you do, you judge yourself. You attempt with gratitude, honesty, and hard work. I never let anyone outside my inner circle determine the value of me or my actions.

Everyone has a inner scorecard. Sociopaths, narcissist have them. They look a little different than other’s innerscorecard. So its just as important to have a good scorecard. It’s hard to say exactly what that is but there is one way to tell you’ve chosen a good one.

How many people love you when you’re old. Buffett says that if, by the time you’re old, no one thinks well of you, wealth doesn’t matter, it’s a disaster. His exact quote

“I know people who have a lot of money, and they get testimonial dinners and hospital wings named after them. But the truth is that nobody in the world loves them. If you get to my age in life and nobody thinks well of you, I don’t care how big your bank account is — your life is a disaster. That’s the ultimate test of how you have lived your life.

So here is the caveat, the true grading comes down to if people love you when you’re older. A time when money means less. A time where your physical strenghts and mental sharpness are fading. A time when you have less to offer someone. Who loves you? A well lived life, a well kept inner scorecard, will guide you to an ending of well loved. Popular opinion is great, negative opinion is inevitable. Who you are, and are there people who truly care about you is all that matters. The rest is only a journey to that end. You’re going to know how well you lived up to your inner scorecard when they compare your score to the number of people who also gave you a good score. As we know, it’s one thing to be cognizant of all this, to talk about it, and to put it in to action. I feel I’m doing a good job, but its a work in progress

Quote of the Day: “The big thing I look for when I hire people is whether they have an inner scorecard or an outer scorecard. Do they look to themselves for validation, or to the world? It’s very hard to have an inner scorecard if you need the world to tell you you’re doing well.” -Warren Buffet
