Domain Spotlight:

Shane’s List of Domains at Auction for Monday, July 20th, 2026

Today is my birthday, and I’m not saying it for birthday wishes, there is no need to send those. I use this day to reflect.

I left the nursery going on four years ago, and it was the best thing I ever did. I’m not saying that because the nursery was a bad thing, but because I stopped working 80 hours a week at a time when I still had my brain, my health, and just enough money to be able to continue with my current lifestyle for the rest of my life. It’s been emotionally all over the board.

I’ve missed the purpose of working at the nursery. I miss the plants. I lost my family. They always thought they could do better without me and moved on since I left. They don’t talk to me and have even asked me not to come around. I get it; I was a big presence.

But I concentrate on the positive. I look forward to every day. Every day is an opportunity. I get excited because I could sell a domain any day, a sale that could be the same as a month’s or even a year’s salary. I get to live and work anywhere and see amazing places. I’ve been able to make as much as, or more than, when I was drawing a salary at the nursery. I promised my wife that I would not take from the family’s retirement savings and would continue to add to them, and I’ve been able to do that. I am proud of myself. I made the hardest decision I’ve ever made in my life, and the result was a new level of happiness and freedom. My life is tied to the decisions of only three people: my wife, my daughter, and myself.

I also realized my family at the nursery always cared more about the nursery than me. Since I left, they have barely talked to me, which is okay. I have a great friend group, and they are my family. I’ve traveled the world with them for over two decades and created my best memories. It doesn’t matter who gives you the best memories. Blood or chosen.

Do I hate getting old? 100%. It sucks. I have made the most of the years, but damn, are they going fast. I hate looking in the mirror. I want to stay in my 40s forever. I do everything I can to keep my health so I can keep climbing mountains and traveling the world. I want to run and climb for another 20 years, and the only way to overcome the guaranteed decline of a few percent a year is to start with a base that is exceptional. So far, so good.

I did lose 25 pounds this year, and I feel amazing. I should have done it years ago. I confused “strong” with having big muscles. I decided to go for a different look; I used to want larger muscles, and now I just want to be strong and lean.

So, here’s to another year. Another year of life-changing sales and bill-paying sales. Good friends, good memories, and good health. And remember, if you wait until the stars align to make the hard decisions, you’ll only have a little sun left to play in.

  1. Happy Birthday, Shane!

Some very wise words. It really is true how good health becomes so incredibly important when you age. That has also made me think about when it is time to decrease my domain portfolio. But it is just so hard to do. Especially when there are always great new names in lists like yours and you love this business…

  2. Happy Birthday Shane!
Your list is one of the very few sites I check every single day.Like many other domainers, I have been sitting on many valuable domains for years that just haven’t sold yet. I recently read your comment: “I get excited because I could sell a domain any day, a sale that could be the same as a month’s or even a year’s salary.”
This made me wonder: besides listing on platfo rms like Afternic, Atom, and Sedo, what specific strategies do you use to actively drive and control your sales? Thanks for the daily inspiration
