Yesterday I tried to claim an X handle that wasn’t “rare” but available. The key is you have to have a Premium account to claim it, and if you ever stop paying for Premium, you go back to your original handle, meaning you lose it.
So I claimed it, and three days later it said rejected. This name is for a business, and if you want it you have to move up to X Premium for $2,000 a year. They say they’ll give you $2,500 in advertising if you do.
So not only do you not own the handles, but they are adding another category of value to the names: Hand Register, Premium, Business, and Rare, which is a Business subcategory plus a huge upfront one time fee.
We always knew X handles were valuable, and I figured that releasing them would stop the black market. The way they are doing it actually makes it stronger. Now we know how much it costs monthly to have it, and if you don’t pay, you lose it. On the black market you don’t need to pay the monthly. You still run the risk of X taking it back, but for lower-end names like the one I was looking for it would be worth it. Except this one would probably be hard to get because it’s been a dead handle for a decade.
I love X but also hate everything about it.
On another note. My high beta energy and AI infrastructure stocks got murdered. Could even be called a crash this week. They had be flying high so due to come down some. Just didn’t expect it in day. I normally end my calls and sell new ones at end of week but dropped so much now I have to wait
