Domain Spotlight:

Shane’s List of Domains at Auction for Wednesday, January 22nd, 2025

When I’m at an event or party, I often end up being the center of conversation. It’s not that I aim for it, but let’s face it—most people are just plain boring. They either work a standard 9-to-5, started an insurance agency, or have a profession they can’t—or don’t want to—talk about. Throw in the occasional overachiever who’s only there to brag about their accomplishments or toys, and it’s no wonder I find myself steering the conversation.

I grew up down South, which alone gives me a lifetime of stories to share. Combine that with my diverse mix of business ventures and hobbies, and I can usually connect with just about anyone. After all, all roads eventually lead to domains. Domains have taken me to places like the Playboy Mansion, where stories practically write themselves, and into the worlds of crypto and NFTs, which have brought me to incredible cities like Singapore and Hong Kong. There’s nothing quite like hanging out with ambitious, wealthy twenty- and thirty-somethings from around the globe.

And then there’s my ace in the hole: plants. People generally love plants and always seem to have questions about them. If that’s not enough, I can fall back on my experience as a retail business owner. That’s given me countless stories, along with a knack for reading people and making spot-on observations about the room. For example, I might point out, “See that guy? His wife’s furious because he spilled on his shirt, and he told her, ‘I don’t give a F.’” I could honestly entertain myself all night doing just that.

While I might come across as a talker, I always aim for a 50/50 balance between talking and listening at events. The challenge is filling that other 50%, especially in the Midwest, where people’s lives tend to be less eventful. Conversations here often revolve around things like crops, which isn’t exactly stimulating unless I’m trying to gain an edge in a corn trade. California, on the other hand, is a completely different ballgame. There, it’s sometimes hard to get my 50% in because people love talking about themselves. But to their credit, they’re usually more interesting—especially those in LA who work in film or TV. They have some fantastic stories to share.

I’m really looking forward to the Vegas domain meetup next week. It’s guaranteed to be filled with lively conversations—a mix of personal stories, domain talk, and, of course, plenty of entertainment. Plus, there’s always the opportunity to sprinkle in some hints about selling a few more domains. Maybe I’ll see some of you there!

Have a name at auction and need more exposure? Send me an email. We Charge $10 per name per day. We may be able to help. If you have an auction you want to promote, email us for details.* All names chosen by us. (ie you click through and purchase a name you like) or an occasional paid listing. Everything we say is based on our own research or is opinion. Do your own due diligence. That means look it up yourself if you don’t think the stats or our opinion is correct. We hand choose the names but we are paid to make this list by both the auction houses, individuals that are auctioning names, and Godaddy affiliate links. Keep that in mind and only buy names that YOU think are good.
