My Grandparents were married 76 years. It’s going to be tough for my Grandmother from this point on. They had a complicated love but it was love. They fought but not in ways that normal couples fought. Not a ton of yelling but games. My favorite story ever was my Grandmother wanted a new kitchen. New appliances and a new floor. She had carpet but wanted wood. She asked and asked but my Grandfather just didn’t see it as a priority. So my Grandmother took a hot pan off the stove and let it burn through the carpet. Leaving a giant, melted burn in the carpet. My Grandfather got the hint.
So a few months later he had the entire kitchen redone. New appliances and countertop, beautiful and new. As you walked into the kitchen it looked like a kitchen in the magazine. Everything perfect except for one thing. The section of carpet with the burn mark stayed nice and intact for her to enjoy for many years to come.
