Shane’s Daily List of Domains at Auction for Sunday, July 11th, 2021

I grew up with dogs my entire life. Pretty much had a dog until I left for college. But from then until this year, I only had cats. Cats because they were less maintenance and I was busy trying to raise a child, build a business, and travel. Dogs make that more challenging. And its not fair to add more work to my wife that’s trying to be a Mom and have a career. But then came Covid. Like everyone else, we decided this was the time to get a dog. A companion for my wife who now worked from home, and as good of a year as ever to train a puppy. The first year is the most important and to be able to be home with it all day seemed like a good way to train a dog.

All I have to say is I get it. I get why people like their dogs more than people. The thing becomes your best friend and the love you build for it surpasses feelings for a lot of other things. For some people its one of the few friends they have. It gets all their attention. Our dog gets a ton. It literally is the center of our home now that our daughter is out of the house. If I’m at the store I buy him a toy or a treat. I take him on all my errands. I plan trips to different parks and areas to run him. I love him like a son. I care about him like a member of the family. It’s so fucking weird. I literally think “It’s just a dog. He’s only going to live 10 years or so. Don’t get attached”. It doesn’t work. I sleep on the couch and he come up and curls up next to me. He waits for me at the end of the bed as I get up. He lays at my feet as I write this. I know he likes me because I feed him and house him but he seems like he really really likes me. I only have a handful of people that feel that way. And I’ve only had him 6 months. I have a feeling its only going to get worse.

But I am glad I got him. It’s been good for me. Makes me take some breaks from the world I needed. A simple walk. 10 minutes of petting him. Throwing him in the car and go swimming at the lake. He never asks questions, talks back, or even seems sad. Always the happy dog that gets super excited when he sees me. I can live with that.
