One of the biggest issues with domains is the owners actually have no true idea of the value of their domains. For the upper end, it’s a little more simple. But with everything else, they literally change the price based on how much money they think the buyer has. It’s true that prices change based on buyer but it usually dictates how much they are willing to negotiat, not the actual price. Can you imagine a house being quoted 10 times the price because the people looking to by were known to have money?. I read on DNW someone saying the company had raised $2 million and got the domain for only $3700 that the seller made a huge mistake. They definitely could have priced it higher. But maybe they paid $8 for it and they thought that the value of the domain 400X was pretty good. It wasn’t a word I’ve ever used in my life. They had no idea that the ONLY company in the world that would want to buy it would raise that much. It’s the case of most domain investors.
What is the lowest price a domain should have? At some point, the worst names still have the same utility. The low end all have less than 3 possible buyers in the world. The difference between owners is what they feel that the lowest price is. In the end, nobody knows. It is still a giant crapshoot of price pulled out of your ass. It’s what they FEEL its worth based on the 5% of sales that get released public tangled into a made-up algorithm of an owner. And until more sales are released its going to stay that way.

Have a name at auction and need more exposure? Send me an email. We Charge $10 per name per day. We may be able to help. If you have an auction you want to promote, email us for details.*All names chosen by us, Shane and Josh . (ie you click through and purchase a name you like) or an occasional paid listing. Everything we say is based on our own research or is opinion. Do your own due diligence. That means look it up yourself if you don’t think the stats or our opinion is correct. We hand choose the names but we are paid to make this list by both the auction houses, individuals that are auctioning names, and Godaddy affiliate links. Keep that in mind and only buy names that YOU think are good.
