The big topic in the industry is Godaddy buying up Dan.com. I really really really hated to see it. I loved Dan and its innovation and if you think of innovation the though of Godaddy is at the bottom of the list. Their history of purchasing and using those purchases to be better is not very strong. I love Godaddy and if I only had one entity to use in domain investing it would be them but and its a big but. They buy to take out competition not to use the tech to get better. Look at uniregistry. It had the best UI in domains and they didn’t use it and let it burn out. They will do the same with Dan. They will just let it stay like it is. I don’t see any improvement coming. They bought them to take out the competition.
While it sounds expensive Godaddy knew Dan was about to become a registrar. A registrar that would have eaten their lunch. But it was also going to be a big cost and a huge need of people and a US team. A lot of work. It was way easier to take the payday and move on to the next build. Even Reza’s bio says that’s what he does. Build, scale, sell, build again. Time for him to build again and for Godaddy to have one less competitor to worry about
