One of the things I love about this industry is that after 10 years I’ve made great friends with some pretty smart people. I’ve been friends over a decade with a lot of these amazing people. In a family business there are a lot of struggles internally. But you really have nobody to bounce them off within the company because as the owner, you are at the top and the others at the top are who you are struggling with. Between my running partners, J.T., and Michael Cyger, I have received great advice over the years. JT had great words of advice yesterday and it was simple as listen. People only want to be heard. I give praise all the time but probably don’t listen enough. I could say I listen when people talk but that’s not the problem. The problem is I need to lead the conversation to get them to talk. They are not going to come up and say exactly what’s wrong until its so bad that they have to say something. I need to make sure each person knows that I am there to listen. People are starting to go through the motions and not mind the details like years past and I need to talk to the employees to find out why. I could be something I could do to help bring a spark. It could be as simple as our communication has been poor because we’ve been so busy. Whatever the reason, JT’s simple statement put me in the right direction for solving some of my problems. And we all know Mike Cyger is super mature and professional in everything he does. The opposite of me. So its nice to have these men on Team Shane and I am forever grateful
