I finally went to see Avatar the other day. I think that the cinemotography is so good that you don’t realize how good it is. That the entire move is computer generated. You feel like you are watching real actors in a real world. Sure there are moments where you realize but overall its really nothing like we’ve ever seen. I know I’m getting old when all I can think what would my younger self had said if I saw this back then. We thought Star Wars were the best special effects ever. They were some of the best back then. I HAS been 40 years so its expected that things evolved and improved but I still appreciate the leaps and Avatar was an incredible leap. The three hours long thing was a bit rough on the bladder. Especially since they serve you a gallon of Coke now. And free refills of popcorn got me to two buckets of popcorn and a stomach ache.
The other thing that I’m not sure others experienced is the mental fatigue. Sitting in an IMAX watching 3D action for 3 hours was super tough on the brain. A ton of sensory stimulation that a big brain like mine took in masses. When I came out I was mentally and physically tired. Of course it could have been the gallon of Diet Coke and the 3 cubic yards of popcorn
