Domain Spotlight:

Shane’s Daily List of Domains at Auction for Friday, January 16th, 2023

Before I retired I used to say that you better have a day job if you really want to make good money in domains. Now that I don’t have a day job I think its more true than ever. There are a few dozen domain investors that are selling good amounts of domains. Enough that income comes in regularly and can pay their normal expenses. I don’t have that. I do sell about 100K a year which is great extra income, but the time I pay taxes and then reinvest to keep my domain portfolio level, I couldn’t live on that amount of income. There is always the chance I have a big sale. There have been a few years where I did $250K in sales. I just have no idea when that will be. So it’s best I keep domain investing a side income. I could do the keep churning the smaller sales through cold calling and emails. Auction flips, etc. But that’s not really what I want to do. I don’t mind doing some of that and certainly will be adding reaching out to potential owners, I just don’t want to sell $300 domains over and over. I’m not too good to do that, it is just not what I want to do at this age. I think I can make more money by putting my time elsewhere.

Right now I have two payment plan domains giving me $1000 a month and this blog helping as well. Not enough to live on but again, it all adds up. I also have a little cash rent for land I own, yield from NFT staking, annual profits from a few businesses I own, a retirement check, and random NFT and domain sales. All that combined and I think if I can take my 50-60 hrs I was working at the nursery and I can do well. I also get to make the call when and how much work I do. But you all know me. That probably changes when I start my next big project. Whatever that ends up being

  1. Very true. I think especially 2023 will be a tough year for domain investing full-time for most newcomers and also many veterans.

It is also amazing how fast money disappears after you have had a nice sale. At least in my experience. I look at the income I have had from domains over the years and think “where the h… did that money go?”.

Hey today is Monday, January 16th
And Friendo.com auction ended 3 days ago, still you are showing this domain on Domain Spotlight.
What kind of domainer you are, I think you are mechanic, robot domainer… Interesting… But you are always doing same mistakes….

  3. Hey Shane, why you are not parking your domains, I believe you have nice domain portfolio, you can get some passive income monthly, try parking 🙂
