As many know, I had to pull out of speaking at NamesCon. At the time, I had a recent family member pass away, and it just felt too soon. I also did it because I didn’t feel like the audience was big enough to be diverse. A domainer-only conference is just a tough thing to pull off. There is not enough revenue to bring in top names. Instead, I’m going to VeeCon, which is very close to me and drivable, and look at this set of speakers. All the domain conferences combined haven’t pulled that kind of lineup. Getting to meet these people and have meetings and talk domains with them feels like it would be more productive than meeting the same people again. Don’t get me wrong; I love domain investors and call many of them great friends. Only saying that expanding my knowledge and business insights is better served at this large conference. I am already “someone” in Web 3, but if you look, more than half of the companies and speakers are traditional business and web. I am really looking forward to it, and it’s in a place I know well, and I can be home in an hour and a half drive, which is really nice.
