Dropcatch had some crazy sales yesterday:
- Spend.com went for just under $800K.
- FaceCard.com hit just over $20K.
That’s one heck of a day! Those are solid margins for snagging just two names. The dropcatch game might feel like it’s slowing down, but days like this remind you it only takes a couple of big wins to make it all worthwhile.
The reason it feels like it’s fading is that registrars and registries are keeping more of their domains. There aren’t as many falling into the open bucket for dropcatchers to grab like there used to be. Dropcatchers will tell you there are still hidden gems out there—and they’d know better than me—but registries are focused on keeping the money in-house. And let’s be real, they’re gonna win that battle.
