I raised a runner. A runner often competes on a team, but it’s all on you. A runner can be coached, but you make the decision whether it’s going to hurt that day. It’s going to hurt. Nobody is harder on a runner than the runner themselves. Every day, you dread the workout, and every day, you get excited when it’s done. You train for months, only to have a bad race and start the process all over again. Your memory must be short, your drive must be strong, and sacrifice is part of the strategy.
When you raise a runner, you don’t help with homework. They know it’s like running—you can’t cram it all in at the end. You have to do it daily so the measurement goes well. Races, tests—they are measurements. The training is what makes you better. The races and tests are for others to see your results. You already have a good idea of what you’re capable of. A runner is always capable of more because there is never a perfect day. Life doesn’t work like that. You get perfection once or twice in a lifetime. That perfection often comes during training, and the only ones who know are you and maybe those you run with. That doesn’t mean we can’t search for it, base outcomes against it. You just learn that good is good.
I raised a runner. Anxiety is part of the game when you’re young. You have a bag of excuses for why it might not go well—despite the training, despite the work. You know it won’t be perfect, and when you’re young, you worry about what will go wrong. With time and experience, you worry less and live off your preparation. Knowing you did the work… or didn’t do the work. Either way, it’s going to hurt at the end when you give everything you have to be a little faster. But you know you’ll be fine tomorrow, and you build on what you did.
My runner is figuring this out. She has excelled to the top of her class by putting in the work. She has worried about tests and races not going well. She’s fallen apart and failed. But every day, the time it takes to get back up gets a little shorter—to the point where failure is accepted and even encouraged, so she can eliminate the “don’t do that.”
I raised a runner
Quote of the Day: “Struggling and suffering are the essence of a life worth living. If you’re not pushing yourself beyond the comfort zone, if you’re not demanding more from yourself – expanding and learning as you go – you’re choosing a numb existence. You’re denying yourself an extraordinary trip.” – Dean Karnazes

Have a name at auction and need more exposure? Send me an email. We Charge $10 per name per day. We may be able to help. If you have an auction you want to promote, email us for details.* All names chosen by us. (ie you click through and purchase a name you like) or an occasional paid listing. Everything we say is based on our own research or is opinion. Do your own due diligence. That means look it up yourself if you don’t think the stats or our opinion is correct. We hand choose the names but we are paid to make this list by both the auction houses, individuals that are auctioning names, and Godaddy affiliate links. Keep that in mind and only buy names that YOU think are good.
