Domain Spotlight:

Shane’s List of Domains at Auction for Friday, March 28th, 2025

I’m giving a talk where I take a deep dive into my finances. I don’t mind sharing most of the details—there’s really nothing particularly special about them. I’ve always been pretty open about what I do, just not the scale of it. The “hardworking small farmer” persona plays well, and it fits.

One thing I had to figure out was my net worth. Honestly, I never really thought about it much, because I’ve always had everything I need. I’ve cared more about income and savings than the total value of my assets.

Until recently, I had never included my domain portfolio in my net worth—even though it adds six figures or more to my income every year. That’s more than many people make at a traditional job. I’ve valued the domains at wholesale auction prices—not what I could sell them for in a day, but what I might get if listed them at auction. For example, a strong LLLL domain might go for $50K, a decent one for $30K, and a lower-tier name for $15–20K.

It’s a rough estimate, and that’s all it needs to be. No bank is going to loan me money based on those assets anyway. The only person who really cares is the tax guy—and even then, only when I sell.

At the end of the day, domains have become a significant part of my net worth, which makes sense. I’ve been building this portfolio for 17 years. If you can’t build a nest egg working several hours a day for 17 years, then you might want to rethink how you’re spending that work time.

Quote of the Day: “Your net worth can fluctuate, but your self-worth should only appreciate” -Chris Gardner

Domain of the Day: RNX.com This one of the better LLL to come across Godaddy in months. I think close to 100K when it’s all said and done
