Domain Spotlight:

Shane’s List of Domains at Auction for Wednesday, June 4th, 2025

There’s no better place to check daily sales results than right here. Travis compiles all the names we list and puts them into a daily report the next day. Of course, NameBio is still the Bible when it comes to sales data. But for end-user sales, X has become a great place to see what’s moving.

Every day, hundreds of people post their sales publicly. Just search for Atom and Afternic sales. You can take those posts one of two ways: motivating or depressing. It’s hard not to feel frustrated when you see what looks like bad names selling while your good names sit. But you could also look at it and think, “If those are selling, then mine will too—eventually.”

The posts help me and hurt me. I see the prices some people are getting and start to wonder if I’m underpricing my names or selling too soon by accepting offers instead of holding out for a BIN. At the same time, I’ve raised my BINs and it’s helped—I’ve been getting more for my names. The downside is I’ve definitely scared off a few buyers with higher prices. I’ve lost some sales. But overall, I think I’ve made more money by paying attention to the comps on X. Especially in the .ai and crypto spaces, where prices are much higher than average.

One other thing you’ll notice from the posts: 95% of sales seem to come from just two platforms—Atom and Afternic. BrandBucket, which used to be a major player, seems to have faded. I’m sure they still have sales, but I rarely see them. That’s wild, because for a long time they were second only to Afternic. Then Dan came along and hurt them, and then Atom took more ground. There’s still opportunity there, but they didn’t innovate or market aggressively.

I love Margot. She’s one of my favorite people in the industry, so I hate to see anything but success for her. But business is business. We all need to list our names where they have the best chance of selling for the best price. Commission rates matter, but it starts with sales potential. Right now, the potential is there—and the sales are happening. Just check X and you’ll see it.

Have a name at auction and need more exposure? Send me an email. We Charge $10 per name per day. We may be able to help. If you have an auction you want to promote, email us for details.* All names chosen by us. (ie you click through and purchase a name you like) or an occasional paid listing. Everything we say is based on our own research or is opinion. Do your own due diligence. That means look it up yourself if you don’t think the stats or our opinion is correct. We hand choose the names but we are paid to make this list by both the auction houses, individuals that are auctioning names, and Godaddy affiliate links. Keep that in mind and only buy names that YOU think are good.

  1. Interesting point about BrandBucket. Margot must be the complete opposite of Darpan. She hardly ever posts, the namePros thread is dead, and even the seller newsletter is rare.

Everything seems a bit secretive, and I think that has made many sellers leave. Especially with Afternic listings not an option anymore.

But BrandBucket still has 140K highly curated names and many repeat buyers. I would love to know more about how they are actually doing.
